Human Health Crisis
A Requirement for Development

A Human Health Crisis

Every minute two or three children in the world die from
poor water quality.

The health impacts of today’s global water crisis are staggering. Today nearly
one billion people – about one in eight – lack access to safe drinking water.
More than twice that many, 2.5 billion people, don’t have access to a toilet. Lack
of sanitation is the world’s biggest cause of disease.

What does this mean? Over two million people in developing countries die each year from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, poor sanitation and poor hygiene. More than 80% of the deaths are children under
the age of five.

These diseases and deaths are all preventable.
